‘Go to everyone and teach’ , the words of the Divine Master. The teacher participates directly in the mission of Jesus, who is the true master in the mission of teaching. They have the opportunity to drink from the true source, so that their lives are filled with the Holy Spirit.
To be a teacher and to have the art of teaching is to respond to the Divine Master's call, to have a deep and intimate connection with him, basing your life on the teachings of the Holy Church and the sacraments, so that you can respond fully to this call.
The Catholic teacher needs to bear witness to life. Before opening a book or even transmitting his knowledge with mastery, his life must be an open book for his students, he must set good examples and be virtuous. Your attitudes will have a direct impact on your students' souls.
What teachers teach and what they live cannot be in dissonance with the Catholic faith. Their role is much more than transmitting knowledge, it is a call to transform souls, being a bridge for true education to take place in its fullness. As well as teaching and educating, teachers form disciples who see them as teachers and follow them.
One thing that is innate in human beings is imitation. Children are very impressionable, they are more impressed by what they see than by what they hear, great arguments don't convince them. ‘Example is the sweetest and strongest of laws’.
Examples imprint on their character much more than good words that the teacher says, they have an instinctive desire to imitate, copy and look like the greats. Since human beings are in a state of falling and rising again because of original sin, children are no different, which is why bad examples are copied more easily and worse than good examples. But through good example, the teacher will not only show the child what to do and how to do it, but will also arouse in the child's soul the desire to do good, thus bringing the child ever closer to the Divine Master and his teachings.
That's why teachers need a deep spiritual experience in order to radiate the light of Christ in their pupils. On entering the student's life, the teacher must lead him or her to the knowledge of the truth, and that truth is Our Lord Jesus Christ himself, where the whole meaning of true Catholic education ends.
